Twitter for Brazil Real Estate Investors
Often referred to as a 'micro-blogging' platform, the Twitter network has thousands of new users joining every day and is now become one of the most popular social networks on the web. It is also used by millions of business owners for networking, announcements, information providing, problem solving, outsourcing to name a handful of its commercial advantages.
The Brazil Investment Guide (Real Estate) have been employing the network to inform our followers of relevant organisation news, the latest information, hints, tips and to build our own contacts within the industry. For the Brazilian property investor, we believe it is an excellent way to not only develop your business but also a great way to boost your own profile and let people know you are pro-active. Below is a list of tips to help you on your way:
- Click on to the Twitter Homepage and follow the simple registration system to set up your account (ensure you include a picture);
- If you are having trouble cutting your picture down go to the Shrink Pictures site where it can be done quickly and easily;
- Read Twitter's own Twitter 101 for Business guide;
- Complete your profile / biography (be honest);
- If you have a website and/or blog, be sure to enter that when registering;
- Follow us at twitter.com/brazilinvesting (you will see the 'Follow' Button under our profile picture);
- We will get a notification that you are following us and we will return the favour;
- If you are already on Twitter and have noticed that we are not following you, please drop us an email at info@brazilinvestmentguide.com and we will make sure that we rectify this;
- You will notice that we are following active Brazilian active real estate professionals, investment companies, experts, magazines, networkers, forum owners etc. so feel free to build connections with them yourself;
- You can register your mobile phone number and receive Twitter updates (as well as make use of facilities such as 'nudging' if you have not updated in 24 hours);
- Share hints, tips and useful information about your activities as a Brazilian real estate investor;
- You will notice that you are limited to 140 characters with your updates - you are therefore naturally obliged to keep your Tweets short and succinct;
- Point out interesting things that you are seeing about the Brazilian real estate market (on a local / national level);
- There is a knee-jerk inclination to follow everyone that follows you - yet you should remember that some spammers do exist on the platform so be discerning and keep an eye on your account;
- Further to the last point, following hundreds of people within a short space of time is frowned upon as potential spamming by Twitter - so take your time;
- Focus on quality and not quantity (it's not about the number of Tweets' you can make in a day);
- Never use the Twitter platform to 'sell' your services and promote your own agenda - be an advisor, relationship builder and helper;
- Share interesting Brazil property investment related links to your community (you may find that the URL comes out too long to fit - in which case you should use a site such as Shrunkin, Shrinkify and TinyURL);
- If you are promoting your own Brazil property investment services - ensure that you are providing something of use as opposed to a sales pitch;
- Post original thoughts on the Brazil real estate market / industry - prompt discussions (but remember to remain polite even when you have a difference of opinion);
- If you read a Tweet that triggers your interest, use the 'reply' function by putting an @ sign in front of their name (also feel free to comment on their Tweets). This often can help build your relationships within the network;
- If you have a blog - invite people onto it by highlighting the topic of discussion (you can also link your blog and Twitter using Twitter Feed);
- You can also take your blog or other social media profile and leverage your audiences by linking your pages together using sites like Friend Feed (remember not to overdo it as some of your network may get irritated with seeing your updates too often);
- If you are actively investing in Brazil real estate and come across issues which you are not sure how to handle, Tweet your problems (for example, you may have come to a legal obstacle or you have a query about finance) - you will find that many investors have been through the same experience and may be able to offer you a pointer or two;
- Ask questions which will help the community at large as well as yourself;
- Follow not only Brazil real estate investors but also business people and other professionals you admire;
- Follow expert Tweeters to see how they are maximising their business potential using the platform;
- You will notice that there is a 'Direct Message' section where you can communicate on a 1-to-1 basis if you feel there is no real benefit to your followers or community at large;
- Use services like Twitter Search to see if there are topics being circulated that are relevant to you;
- Write honest and valuable recommendations of your contacts on sources like Mr. Tweet;
- Use the Twitter Sheep site to take look at your followers in detail via what has been termed a 'bio cloud';
- 3rd party clients like Tweetdeck, Seesmic and Twhirl make it a lot easier to manage Twitter and other social network accounts you have;
- Try your best to thank as many people who are following you;
- Register to Grader where you will be able to monitor how your Twitter account is performing from a number of different angles;
- Use Twitpic to share photos of interest to your followers;
- Don't be offended if people stop following you - it's nothing personal!
- Join industry and topic groups related to your property business such Twellow and Twibes;
- Use applications and tools like Clickable Now, Twitter Customizer, Twitter Backs and Twit Backs to enhance your Twitter background and profile;
- Use sites like Twitdom, SocialToo and Social Oomph to automate and streamline your Twitter account(s) (for example send direct messages, time your Twitter posts, create polls, file sharing to name a few of the hundreds of applications that these sites offer). Again, be sure to not go overboard the top with automation and continually aim to maintain a personal Twitter image (as opposed to a 'robotic' one);
