From the start of March, as part of a range of modernizing measures to manage Brazil´s cumbersome administrative and tax collection procedures, the Receita Federal stated that they will only be accepting declarations via a specially designed computer programme.

Paper forms will no longer be acceptable and declarations must be made online or via a CD / pen-drive at agencies of the Banco do Brasil and the Caixa Econômica Federal.

Of relevance to property owners in Brazil is a new field which requires a declaration to be made of any payments made to management agencies.  According to authorities, this is to minimize the increasingly common discrepancies that were appearing.  Properties in Brazil rented to corporate entities will also need a valid CNPJ (company number) to be entered in order to be acceptable.

From this year, Brazilians are also required to declare any income of dependents – a stipulation which has been created to better monitor receipts.
