URGENT: Donation Request for Brazil Flood Victims
You may be aware of the floods that have devastated towns and villages in the Alagoas and Pernambuco states of north eastern Brazil. As with most natural disasters that hit Latin America, it is largely the poorer sections of society that suffer and, whilst the rain has subdued since last week, several fundamental access points, bridges, roads, hospitals and schools have been completely wiped away.
President Lula has allocated over US$ 300 million in emergency aid which will no doubt alleviate and assist with the rebuilding of the towns yet several NGOs in the region are still in need of assistance to help over 150,000 people that have been left homeless. We have been in touch with the Global Giving organisation and would like to request newsletter subscribers to contact us with the aim of pooling together a collective donation to go directly and transparently to those in need.
