‘The Olympic Effect’

As Brazil celebrates the fact that the Olympics will hosted for the first time ever on its shores, the country has already begun to attract global attention (both positive and negative) as to the future outcomes that the games will bring.  We wanted to point readers to a paper published by Andrew Rose (Haas School of Business, Berkley) and Mark Spiegal (Federal Reserve Bank of San Fransisco) earlier this year entitled ‘The Olympic Effect’:

The document examines the economic impact of hosting an Olympic games – with a particular focus on international trade.   An interesting read regardless of what your thoughts are on the effects of a major sporting event on a city.
